Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Get Katy Perry’s Look

Monday, February 1st, 2010

katy-perry-grammy-awards-2010.jpgAs you guys might remember, the morning after an awards show, my inbox is flooded with “Get the look!” emails from publicists.  I thought you might enjoy this one for Katy Perry.

Katy Perry’s Look, by Jake Bailey

After a recent trip to India, Katy Perry brought back a variety of bindis and together, with celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, they used this as inspiration to create a “bettie page, Indian princess look” for this year’s Grammy Awards.

To perfect her skin, Jake used Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation and to set the look, he dusted Guerlain Les Violettes Matte Touch Powder all over the face.

Jake then highlighted the apples of her cheeks with CORALista blush from benefit.

Keeping with the exotic feel, Jake used a mixture of shimmery plums and golds on her eyes. “I was going for a more colorful version of the tradition smoky eye,” said Jake. Jake used COVERGIRL’s double-ended smoky eye stick, Smoky Shadow Blast in Purple Plume by first applying the angled end of the shadow stick, the deeper plum, over the entire lid and blending into a smoky halo. He then applied Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire, using the round, golden end to line along the lid and inner corners of her eyes to brighten the look.

To complete her smoky eye, Jake created an ultra-long lash look with several coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length in black. “The best thing about this mascara is that you can apply coat after coat to get maximum impact without losing separation and elegance,” said Jake.

To balance her dramatic eyes without overpowering them, Jake finished her look with a matte lip, using COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Wild Berry Wink. “I love these Lipstains so much because you can line and shape the entire lip without sacrificing your own lip texture,” Jake finished.

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Keri Hilson

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

keri-hilson-grammy-awards-2010.jpgO-to-the-freaking-M-G, how amazing does Keri Hilson look here?

I can’t properly express how much I dig her purple smokey eyes, and will be attempting to recreate this myself imminently!  (I have a MAC eyeshadow that I suspect will work perfectly, called Violet Trance.)  The grecian goddess hairstyle–is that a braid, or just a twist?–is also fantastic.

Stunning!  Love it!

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Miley Cyrus

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

miley-cyrus-grammy-awards.jpgMiley Cyrus is another contender for my “If you can’t say anything nice…” award that I’m really mistakenly applying to the person, not to the beauty look.

I do actually think her hair is awesome–love the highlights, love the messy waves–and her bronzey eye makeup displays her pretty eyes to perfection.  Could have gone a little lighter on the bronzer, though–she looks okay here, but in some other photos I saw, she was in Oompa Loompa territory.  On the whole, though, it’s fine.

Whew!  That took a lot out of me.

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Beyonce

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

beyonce-grammy-awards-2010-beauty.jpgMeh.  Beyonce’s color is too brassy and she has that weird Bling String stuff in her hair.

No me gusta.

(Okay, I can’t help it.  I just don’t heart her!  Even though I could listen to “Single Ladies” on an endless loop for the rest of my days.)

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Taylor Swift

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

taylor-swift-grammy-awards-beauty-2010.jpgWell, I was certainly not expecting this from Taylor Swift!

The hair and makeup is very much same-as-always: emphasis on her pretty doe eyes, perhaps a little smudge of bright color on her lips, softly curled hair.

Our peekaboo fashion statement here, however, is one part sexpot, one part Park Avenue Matron.  Can’t you see Catherine Zeta-Jones in this gown?

At least when Taylor goes all adult, she keeps it classy!

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Rihanna

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

rihanna-grammy-awards-2010.jpgHmph.  I don’t really know what to make of Rihanna here.

Perhaps I am being swayed by the Swan Straightjacket situation we have going on below the neck…or maybe I simply think the pompadour should have been left for Chris Isaac and Elvis…or perhaps the frosting smeared on her eyes is too Tilda Swinton in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for my liking…

But this look is not for me.

Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Heidi Klum

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

heidi-klum-grammy-awards-2010.jpgPoor Heidi Klum.  She was certainly hit with the ugly stick, wasn’t she?

The straight, simple hair is very Jennifer Aniston, but it works nicely to draw attention to Heidi’s gorgeous features.  We’re especially fans of the ample, feminine lashes and the dewy glow radiating from her skin.

New motherhood suits her!

(By the way, how many children does she have now–like, eight?  It feels as though she’s been continuously pregnant for the past decade.)
