Love for foreign magazines
Thursday, July 3rd, 2008
On my daily walk home from work, I pass Book Soup, a gem of a bookstore in West Hollywood that is special to me for two reasons: 1) It’s where I had my very first book reading, back in November (the five people that came totally dug it); and 2) They have one of the best and widest magazine selections under the sun. These days, only foreign mags get my motor revving…and I still rarely look at the articles, preferring instead to flip through and gaze at the party photos. Tatler (my number one fave!), Elle UK, Grazie, Paris Match, Heat, British Cosmo…any excuse to pretend I’m back on the other side of the pond, no?

A tanned and beautifully tressed Charlize Theron on the cover of August Elle UK; quietly glamorous

And in the “tacky” corner, we have Seventeen, who has sadly missed all the marks recently with its cluttered layouts and overly airbrushed images. The adorable Blake Lively is practically unrecognizable here, and her hair might as well be in a baseball cap, ’cause I can’t see it for the font that has vomited all over the page
