I’ll be radio-silent tomorrow since I (and all of my anti-frizz products) am flying to Miami as Nivea’s guest to attend the Shay Todd fashion show. Never fear, my dears, as I promise to bring back some swag for you in the form of a product giveaway! The whole trip is bound to wreck havoc on my skin–I’ll be in Miami for, literally, 15 hours, with barely even enough daylight time to visit the beach or dip in the pool–and part of me is like, “Um…why did I agree to fly across the country for drinks and a party?” Sigh. I can never turn down a free cocktail.

I’m damn excited to see Mamma Mia, despite the fact that I’m not the world’s biggest Amanda Seyfried fan–an opinion that, I’ll admit, is probably not entirely fair. You see, I went to a Matrix Biolage hair/makeup event months ago, right around the time of the Academy Awards, and Amanda was there. Despite the fact that there were other “celebrities” in house, such as a very demure Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights, Amanda caused a bit of a ruckus in the small hotel suite: she arrived, words were whispered back and forth behind papers, Amanda waited by the door, the back room was cleared, and then Amanda swept by–still wearing sunglasses–to have her hair and makeup done in private. It could have been all her publicist’s doing–I didn’t witness any diva foot-stomping or anything–but the entire scene was just beyond eyeroll-inducing. Here’s hoping it was just a one-off and Amanda’s actually super lovely. As far as Mamma Mia…can’t wait!

Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Body Cocktail

I’ve visited a spa or twelve in my day, and consider myself something of a massage expert. (Hmm. Okay, maybe not an expert, since I have no freaking idea how to properly give one that doesn’t involve lightly scratching fingernails or sad little attempts at shoulder-kneading that result in said recipient swatting away my hands and saying, “You know…it’s okay. Just forget it.” So, let’s say I’m a massage enthusiast. A connoisseur, if you will.) I had a fantastic one last night at Ole Henriksen in West Hollywood (310-854-7700): a two-hour African Red Tea Body Cocktail involving a drool-inducing massage, followed by a brown sugar scrub, tropical rain rinse (as in, the ceiling started raining fat, soothing droplets of water on me), antioxidant African Red Tea body mask, and a wrap to pull out all the impurities. I crawled home, drank my body weight in water to flush out all the toxics I envisioned flooding my system (and since Tuesday night was a very late one, I’m sure there were a lot of toxins to be axed) and then passed out.

Antioxidants are, of course, one of the big buzzwords in beauty, since they help fight free radicals, which are the nasty little buggers involved in the aging process. African Red Tea is getting attention because it has a higher percentage of antioxidants than green tea, and also has calming and soothing properties. The African Red Tea See The Difference Serum is packed with it, and includes anti-inflammatory, circulation-boosting gingko biloba, and sea kelp, which firms and detoxifies. It costs $48.

Sarah Jessica Parker: Mole No More?

If this photo, taken yesterday at the MLB All-Star game at Yankee Stadium, is to be believed, it looks like SJP has finally rid herself of her famous mole. I’ll admit, while watching old reruns of Sex and the City, my eye is unwillingly drawn to that thing; as the years passed, the mole seemed messier and out of place, as if the beauty equivalent of a once-chic, now-tatty cashmere sweater. It was charming, but not beautiful. And yet, now that her mole is gone (at the advice of her dermatologist, perhaps, or simply vanity?), I kind of miss it.

Josh Hartnett for Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men

The night of my very first book signing, back in the fall, a friend and I celebrated afterward at my favorite spot. One thing led to another (and another, and another), and we ended up—chastely, I promise you—back in Josh Hartnett’s hotel room with the actor and several of his friends. He was utterly gentlemanly, charming, intelligent and well-spoken….it was quite a fun night! I’ve loved the Hot-nett ever since, and am happy he’s the face of Emporio Armani’s new fragrance Diamonds for Men, which launches next month. The ad, below:

Jeez, I’m away from my computer for 36 hours and I miss absolutely everything. Didja know Christie Brinkley settled her divorce? Or that Matthew McConaughey had a baby? And Nicole Kidman popped one out, too? Plus, Drew Barrymore and her adorable (not to mention oh-so-polite and friendly!) Justin Long split? And Madonna has eaten A-Rod? Oh. You heard? Damn, I’m behind.

I especially was behind on this, Elle’s August cover featuring Mariah Carey’s “new” body, some insane photoshopping, and—about three inches to the right of where it should actually be—Mariah Carey’s head. Good times.

Clarisonic, day three

Sooo, the Clarisonic. As promised, I’ve been testing it these past few days, and while it’s too soon to make a serious judgment about it (one way or the other), I’m tentatively pleased. It cleanses thoroughly, it exfoliates well, my skin feels soft and smooth afterwards and it’s just fun to use. During my Clarisonic time, my bathroom is full of birds chirping songs and mice dancing jigs! A good time is had by all!

Seriously, though, my only real concern is the price: the Clarisonic goes for nearly $200…and while it would be the best device ever at, say, $29.99, does it really clean two hundred clams worth? I mean, my skin is still just there, being all skin-like. I haven’t yet broken out, but I’ve not morphed into a supermodel, either. Sadly, the jury is still at recess. I’ll keep you posted on my findings.

I couldn’t live up to my promise to review the Clarisonic today as you have to let it charge for 24 hours. (Stupid instructions…That’s how you know I’m getting old–I’m actually starting to read them!) As far as the Vi Peel after-photos, I will post them next Tuesday, at the five week mark.

Most dramatic rose ceremony…EVER

For once, Chris Harrison wasn’t kidding. Last night, Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas chose snowboarder Jesse over puppy-dog-eyed dad Jason in the finale that I don’t think anybody saw coming. (Um, except for me!; D. you totally owe me seventy-five cents.) I guessed correctly that DeAnna would choose excitement and somebody her own age who could (theoretically) give her all his attention instead of going with the safe choice of a family she allegedly wanted with a man who’d always put her number two. Don’t cry for him, Jason-lovers; I’m putting down money (D.? Anybody?) that, by this time next year, he’ll be engaged to a woman who fell in love with him through her television.

I found Jesse extremely sexy and liked him and DeAnna as a couple more than I liked her and Jason; I think Jason is too good for DeAnna and that there’s somebody better suited for him out there. Still, was it just me, or did DeAnna and Jesse seem insanely fake during the After the Rose? (And Shayne and Matt didn’t seem too solid, either.) Bachelor couples squeezing every last drop out of their “relationship” for the camera? Well, I never!

Truly, I could not be happier about the news that, slowly but surely, beauty companies are finally taking initiative and creating new scents. Ralph Lauren is soon coming out with Notorious (not, you know, “Ralph Rocks Boogaloo”, or “Ralph Cool Sexified”, or “Ralph Insert-Random-Extra-Word-Here-That-Is-Supposed-To-Make-You-Want-To-Buy-The-Exact-Same-Scent-Over-And-Over”. I mean, originality in fragrance? And a model–not a celebrity furthering their “brand”–as a model?? Groundbreaking, people.

Notorious will be released later this month with Laetitia Casta as the face; can’t wait! The scent is created by Olivier Gillotin and reportedly features black currant, pink peppercorn, bergamot, chocolate cosmos, white frost peonies, carnation, patchouli musk, vanilla and iris

The Clarisonic Cleansing Experience

After hearing so much about the Clarisonic, a sonic oscillation face brush that’s supposed to be twice as effective at cleaning skin as the lazy ol’ regular method, I was of course eager to try it. My very own version arrived today, delivered by the magic beauty fairies, so I’ll try it out tonight and let you know how it goes. Perhaps tomorrow I will emerge looking so clean, so young, so vibrant that I’ll appear, like, twelve. Dare to dream!
