YSL Holiday 2009 Makeup Collection
Contributing Editor Cologne Schmidt writes:
I die over YSL make-up. Back in my Bendel days, when high-end luxury make-up was my life—I would melt over the glass case of endless YSL shades and gloss. Never straying from the cutting edge of beauty, the renowned couture label dares to develop wearable make-up without playing it safe. Yves Saint Laurent make-up is as enticing as it is distinctive. There’s something glamorous about pulling out Touche Éclat in the ladies room and having all the girlies ooh and ahh over it. What’s even more glamorous is having “It’s Touche Éclat” roll off your tongue as if you’d spent every summer in Paris since you were born. And that is why I love YSL so.
Now, obviously this love comes with a designer price—YSL speaks to opulence, not value—but there are several items worth the investment (or splurge), including their brand new mascara (!) and holiday goodies. While YSL’s original mascara was amazing, this new one is simply divine. Dubbed Mascara Singulier, the new multi-effect formula and spiral injection brush are designed for dramatic volume, length, and curl. Singulier covers 360 degrees of the lashes, contains microfibers that extend beyond the tip, and features a special curling wax to give a girl bewitching eyes. It kicks my beloved Maybelline Great Lash to the curb. But at the rate I go through mascara, can I afford to dress in $30 lashes? Get me some scratch-offs, I’m gonna try….
I cruised over to Bergdorf’s the other day to meet with YSL’s amazing national make-up artist, Dell, and to check out what’s in store for winter. Leaving glitter and jet black lipgloss behind (which I admit, I totally own), this season is all about pure, vibrant, incandescent colors—from sublime red to deep plum. Dell emphasized the return of the full face of make-up this winter—it is a time when dark lips, made-up eyes, and rosy cheeks can all be worn together (within reason, of course…we aren’t Broadway performers!). New items to achieve this look include Mini Touch Blush in Sparkling Beige, Golden Gloss Shimmering Lip Gloss in Golden Cherry and Golden Lavender, and Fard a Levres Rouge Pur lipstick in Black Tulip and Sweet Dark Purple. Yummy. They are also offering 2 limited edition gold or silver heavy duty eye and lip compacts engraved with the emblematic YSL symbol. Pretty bling-bling if you ask me.
So glad to see dark lips and vampire colors are still in season (Chanel is channeling the same goth-glam vision), so I don’t have to toss my black YSL lip gloss just yet. Unless my mom comes to visit…and then I’ll be putting that one away immediately!

There’s something about the scent of YSL makeup that I can’t stop thinking about. I love the maroon mascara…it brings out green eyes like nothing else. Can’t WAIT to get the Parisienne….good thing the holidays are drawing near!
