Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, Harvest or December 25th!

Every year at holiday time, I have a few personal Jolie traditions: I frequent Starbucks because I love the holiday cups.  I blast Christmas by Blues Traveler over and over and over… (Seriously, you listen to the song and tell me the crescendo doesn’t give you goosebumps and fill you with joy!)  I stop fast-forwarding my DVR and actually seek out holiday commercials, particularly anything involving the Coca Cola polar bears.  And I watch Christmas chick flicks, preferably those set in England, like Love, Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and The Holiday.  For cheesy ol’ me, it really is the most wonderful time of the year!

Just today–bam!  The holidays began.  (Starbucks cup?  Check.  Christmas by Blues Traveler?  Check.  Christmas commercial?  Yup.  Now, on what channel can I find Love, Actually?)  And, appropriately, Sephora PR sent through a message that they’re now running a contest giving away beauty products until December 18th — Sephora Clause has landed!

How to enter: “Tweet on Twitter an @Sephora message and tag your wish with a #sephoraclaus “hashtag.” Plus, you can “share” your wish on Facebook and receive one of three deluxe samples, including YSL Black Mascara, Philosophy Inner Grace Body Lotion or Mini NARS Duo Lipgloss. To get your glamorous goodie, enter any of these gift with purchase codes: WISHME, Claus, or Clause.”

Enjoy!  And I’m curious - what are your own personal holiday traditions?  Are you looking forward to it this year, or not?

This year I decided to celebrate ONE HOLIDAY at a time and must say I am enjoying myself instead of feeling stressed and grumpy.

For Halloween I bought gourds and pumpkins, made pumpkin soup, and went to a nice family neighborhood to watch kids and their parents having fun. Made pumpkin bread too…I almost turned orange in October.

For Thanksgiving my husband I are having turkey we froze from last year’s feast. Of course we will complement it with fresh side dishes and all the trimmings. This week I decided to send Thanksgiving cards to a few close friends…it felt good.

For Christmas I always re-read Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and watch a Christmas Story (the film). We do different tree decorating from year to year and we have outside lights on the tree in front of the condo. On Christmas Day I go to my sister-in-law’s parents house to celebrate with my brother and his family. My husband does community service. We usually have a nice Christmas Eve meal together and a Christmas Morning brunch.

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year and BTW, I love the Coca Cola Polar bear commercials! I look forward to it every year. I can’t stay away from Starbucks too and I love their holiday specialty drinks.
