Scarlett Johansson on the cover of December Allure magazine
Now this is what I like to see: a fresh take on the samey-samey, tired magazine cover formula! Most mags make me weep in boredom, in large part because it seems like the same shots are recycled month after month. (The obsession with numbers on the cover–7 ways to be trite! 93 pieces you won’t be able to afford!–also irritates.) Sure, the photo here of Scarlett Johansson is a little more sexy Maxim than prissy Allure, but I dig the unexpected angle and va-va-voom hair. And, of course, we all know I love me some ScarJo.
Looking for insane volume? Apply a golf-ball sized amount of mousse to towel-dried hair, blowdry, and then use a large round brush to smooth strands, aiming the nozzle at the roots to increase texture and height as you pull hair up and away from the head. Back-comb at the crown (preferrably with a fine-tooth comb) and set with volumizing hairspray. A mist of shine serum completes it!

last month’s cover with Eva Longoria shot outside was so fabulous, i was curious to see what this cover would look like…it’s amazing! i hope Allure continues to different types of covers…

I was throwing away the last few mos of Allure and, looking at all the covers lined up, it occurs to me that the cover makeup is incredibly bland and uniform. Hillary Duff, Carrie Underwood, Victoria Beckham…same, same, same. Why is that?

The minute I saw this cover, I had to buy it. At first, I didn’t even recognize the girl as Scarlett Johansson, who is nonetheless gorgeous. I love how her hair was done. She looks like a early 90’s glamazon straight from 90210. She looks fierce.
