The rise and fall of Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton’s reputation has gone off the rails a bit in the past few months, with increasingly frequent (and increasingly snide) news reports in the UK papers suggesting she display self-respect and dump Prince William (it’ll be a cold day in hell), stop conducting weekly club crawls (touché) or get a job (how would that work, exactly?  Does nobody remember Sophie Rhys-Jones?).  Previous royal wives and girlfriends have demonstrated that, if the public and the papers turn on you, you’d better have thick skin and prepare yourself for gleeful displays of schadenfreude if you dare mess up.  (The roller-skating incident is already down in royal-watcher history.)  And yet…I can’t make myself turn away.

I must admit I wish I would have worked this angle when I was this age. Instead, I earnestly got my degree, went to work, married cute, solid, middle class boyfriend. It’s worked out well–I can’t complain (although I do)–but sometimes I wish I had looked harder for a prince or a rock star, or at least someone with a trust fund. ;-)

I am crossing my fingers for our girl! I am still holding strong for her and have to believe that something is (secretly) in the works already for the lovely Kate! kHm
