To DiorShow, or not to DiorShow?

Check out Allure.com Daily Beauty Reporter Jessica Matlin’s take on her five current favorite volumizing mascaras.  Her picks include Avon Supershock Mascara, which she compares to DiorShow in terms of brush chubbiness.

Ahh, DiorShow.

Can I confess something here?  I might be the only beauty editor and makeup aficionado on the planet who doesn’t have spontaneous orgasms because of DiorShow’s so-called fabulosity.  Now, I like DiorShow.  I name check it in Beauty Confidential (page 110), and it is, indeed, very, very good.  But I always feel like I’m missing something when I read flowery, gushing, OTT reviews proclaiming it as The Best Ever!  Really?  Ever?  For me, the brush is just a bit too fat, and I can’t reach those tiny hidden corner lashes that you don’t notice until they’re defined (and then it’s, like, Wow!), and I find it awfully prone to clumping, and I simply can’t stand that rose scent.  I feel like I’m using my great-grandmother’s mascara from 1893.  Don’t get me wrong: I don’t stabby-hate it.  There will just be no babies made with it.  Et tu, beautés?

I guess you meant to say “Et vous, mes beautées?” ;)
I don’t understand why everyone has a thing with the DiorShow. When i put it on, it is a real mess under my eyes at the end of the day. Plus, like you say, the brush is too thick for me.
The review on the new Givenchy mascara on Blogdorf Goodman makes me wanna try this one.

  2. Jolie Says:

Alas, that would have been the correct French, but I was being silly and pun-ny! (Yeeeeah, lame. Apologies.)

I also have been itching to try the new Givenchy, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Review forthcoming!

  3. D. Says:

I’ve never tried DiorShow, but I find that mascara with fat wands leave me with dark under-eye circles by the end of the day. NOT what I want in a mascara.

  4. Aly Says:

Ok so I’ve used Dior Show, and to be honest, It clumped up so quickly, dried up, and was horrible. I really think there has to be something better, it is aweful and lasted me a good three weeks. ALAS, I found something great it’s by Darac Beauty and the Expedition Mascara with detailer Brush, is great and it lasts all day and my lashes feel so healty!

  5. Renee Says:

Do not get this mascara.. .diorshow.. no way!! Go for something else, Darac Beauty Expedition Mascara, Maybellene, anything but that!

  6. Jaime Says:

I agree with you. I tried it, and wasn’t really impressed. I had mascara flakes under my eyes at the end of the day, and the scent was way too strong for my eyelashes. My wrists, perhaps. By my eyelashes? No….. :) I think it was just the formula that turned me off - I didn’t mind the big brush - I’m a big fan of LashBlast, actually.

  7. Lipsay Says:

Never really understood the hype around this one. My lashes are quite sad - short and straight - and DiorShow did NOT deliver on its promises. I’m partial to Maybelline Colossal (that new neon-yellow one that supposedly has collagen in it, for “lash plumping” purposes?).

  8. Levy Says:

I think the best mascaras are Lancome Definicil, Period.

  9. Levy Says:

    and Lancome Hypnose…

  10. Jolie Says:

Wow, so it ISN’T just me! I’m always amazed, I must admit, when others share my beauty complaints. Great to know that my lashes aren’t failures.

As far as Lancome mascaras, Levy, they are ALL OVER my book - best in the industry, hands down.

  11. Erin Says:

I’ve tried a bunch of masacaras and I was not impressed by Dior. Right now, I find that Lancome Hypnose or CoverGirl’s Lashblast are really good especially when it comes to volume.

  12. Anna Says:

Sadly Diorshow does not work for me either and I have tried it over and over again, thinking there must be something wrong with me. I love the scent actually and the brush is so great, but it does nothing for my straight lashes and yes I curl every day and it leaves a flaky mess under my eyes. I would love to love it though…sighhh. I also think Lancome is the best and I am dying to try YSL Faux Cils.

  13. Marta Says:

I think Diorshow is a good mascara, one of the best I’ve used. However, I’m not sure my eye lashes got significantly fuller or longer. My L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara gave me that spider long lashes I’ve longed for (umm, is there a pun here) all these years.

  14. Whitnet Says:

I found Diorshow works much better when I warm it up before I put it on. If I’m at home I put the tube in a sink of hot water to warm it up but if I’m out somewhere I’ve found just rolling it between my hands for a while even helps. I absolutely hated it until I tried this trick because I thought it was too clumpy and dry but it glides on much better when its melted a little.

  15. raquel Says:

i totally agree! diorshow is pretty good, but not GREAT… at least not great enough to blow $23 at sephora. my sister seems to think it’s god — it does give her some pretty good doe eyes — but it does diddley for me.
