Nicole Kidman on the cover of July Vogue. Yippee.

Friday, June 20th, 2008

I can summon absolutely no excitement for this cover, even after two cups of coffee.  I’ve just realized that it’s been months (nay…years?) since I’ve even cracked open a Vogue, which used to be one of my favorite magazines.  Why the magazine fatigue?  Honestly, it extends across the board nowadays.  I feel like I’ve read the same article over and over and over, and the images rarely excite.  Alas.  At least the movie Australia does look pretty cool (the trailer gave me goose bumps in the theater!).

Kate Moss on W Magazine July cover

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Daria Werbowy, Kate Moss and some other hot chick (okay, Lara Stone) naked in a bed together…with fabulous hair to boot?  A fantasy that both men and women can get behind!  I cannot express to you how much I covet Kate Moss’s bangs and casual waves here.  Coaxing my cowlick-y frizz into beach babe perfection is something of a Jolie obsession, and considering how messy this style looks (and is supposed to look!) you wouldn’t believe how much flipping effort it takes.  My best method for waves after the jump:

Another day, another nail phase for Rihanna

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I love me some Rihanna, but the metallic brown talons she sported yesterday at BET’s 106 and Park?  Yeeeah.  Not really digging…  (Snaps for experimentation, though!  Keep it up, Ri!)  What do you think?  Are you willing to take chances with your own nails, or are you middle-of-the-road, safe pink girls?

Mariah Carey’s new Elizabeth Arden scent Luscious Pink

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

The Divine Miss M. is releasing her second fragrance with Elizabeth Arden this September, which will be just as girlie as you’d expect a Mariah Carey juice to be.  It’s called Luscious Pink and, according to People’s Off the Rack, includes Tahitian tiare flower, lily of the valley, pink peony and white musk.  Mariah describes the new perfume as “an ethereal…scent that reflects the delicately sensual, feminine and optimistic side of me that is so present today in my music, my fragrance and my life.”  It’s tempting to dismiss the concoction as something likely cloyingly sweet and…er…tacky.  But!  I believe we’d be wrong to underestimate Iron Mimi—M. by Mariah Carey was a smashing success, and Luscious Pink’s notes sound very feminine, sensual and, yes, luscious, indeed.  I’ve been bowled over by “Wait, I expected you to be crappy!” celebrity fragrances before (sigh…the softly sexy JLo Glow and surprisingly delicious Fantasy Britney Spears come to mind) and wouldn’t count Mariah out again…

People Magazine’s Hottest Bachelors 2008

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

The hottest bachelor in the world is A.C. Slater?  Seriously?  I think I’ll pass.  I still haven’t forgiven him for cheating on the Doritos girl.  Sorry, Mario.

I’m just in an apathetic mood today.  None of them are really doing it for me.

How much do you want to bet David Cook is thinking, “Buy my album.  Get me out of here.  Make the puppy dog face.  When do these photo shoot obligations stop?  God, I hope I sell more records than Ruben Studdard.”

Samples at the Marc Jacobs store

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Years ago, I was a devotee of Marc Jacobs’s original eponymous scent Marc Jacobs, which quickly gave me nose fatigue from the sheer number of people that were also obsessed with it.  (Do you remember?  It was impossible to walk into an elevator or go out to dinner without being slammed in the face by Marc Jacobs or the similarly intense, gorgeous and overplayed Michael Kors.)  Everything old is eventually new again, however, and while shopping at Marc Jacobs with a friend recently, I was recaptivated by the gardenia-infused delight.  Bonus: when I asked for samples at the front desk, the salesperson was only too happy to oblige, and I’ve been dabbing myself from the vial for weeks.  Many stores offer free samples, so don’t be afraid to ask!  (Kiehl’s is especially generous with their mini-portions —run, don’t walk.)

More Mandy Moore, please!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

She emerges!  Well, sure, Mandy Moore has been spotted out and about recently, but usually on the arm of her rocker boy Ryan Adams (is it just me, or do they seem like such an odd couple?).  This is a Mandy I can get behind: glowy, peachy cheeks, gleaming smile, and that awesome hair.  People are sometimes all, “Jolie, what up with the Mandy Moore love?  No comprendo.”  I can’t really explain it (well, other than the fact that she’s hardworking, cheerful, talented and oh-so-experimental with her tresses, plus actually has a real woman’s body, not a Hollywood starlet’s); either you get her, or you don’t!  So much love.

Kate Middleton at Prince William’s Order of the Garter Ceremony

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Princess Catherine…  (Yes, that’s how Kate Middleton really spells her name.)  It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?  Royal/Kate-style watchers were yesterday given the clearest indication yet that Kate Middleton will officially soon join The Firm with her all-in-the-family appearance at Prince William’s Order of the Garter ceremony.  Kate’s impeccably tailored suit, whimsical hat, and perfectly groomed hair and makeup are, as always, regal!
