Nicole Kidman on the cover of July Vogue. Yippee.
I can summon absolutely no excitement for this cover, even after two cups of coffee. I’ve just realized that it’s been months (nay…years?) since I’ve even cracked open a Vogue, which used to be one of my favorite magazines. Why the magazine fatigue? Honestly, it extends across the board nowadays. I feel like I’ve read the same article over and over and over, and the images rarely excite. Alas. At least the movie Australia does look pretty cool (the trailer gave me goose bumps in the theater!).

I completely agree - and I used to write for some of these magazines as well, as a freelancer. From age of about 12 to a few years ago magazines were my drug. I LOVED cracking open a glossy new Vogue or Bazaar or Allure. Gradually I started buying less and less, and now don’t even want to read issues that are passed along to me for free! I experienced great trauma this week when I was in Borders and none of the British fashion mags interested me either. Is it us or is it the mags?? Question to ponder…

I agree! I thought it was just me. I stood in Barnes and Noble and not one magazine had that WOW factor like years ago. So sad.

I love to pick up the foreign mags when I’m traveling, esp. French Vogue. Gives you a different perspective of what’s out there. Here it seems to be all about promoting the latest product and sell, sell, sell as opposed to art. And I’d rather see a new model than a celebrity on the cover. Leave the celebs for People and US Weekly.
