Kate Middleton and boxing; an odd couple

Well, it’s certainly no polo game: Kate Middleton glammed it up this weekend at a charity boxing match at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.  Word on the high street is that Kate and Prince William will announce their (already in place) engagement next year.  With every passing month, Kate more firmly establishes herself as a style icon, sticking to classic colors, shapes and styles in her wardrobe, and going the Anna Wintour route of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” with regard to her hair.  Kate reminds me of a young Queen Rania of Jordan, who also favors long, loose waves and sophisticated, simple, monochromatic (occasionally mumsy!) ensembles.  Plus, their skin is always perfectly tanned, eyes are always lightly yet consistently defined, and the hair is glossy, glossy, glossy.

The Queen doesn’t seem to realize the effort that must go into looking like this everytime you step out. Heaven forbid Kate step outside in her sweats, greasy hair thrown in a ponytail and sans makeup to run and grab coffee (or is it tea in England still?). She would be judged and ridiculed for looking sloppy and the royals would be embarrassed that the future queen of England dare appear that way in public. Which means keeping up appearances should qualify as a full-time job, no?

Oh, absolutely - she must spend hours making herself appear effortlessly chic! She’s a naturally pretty girl, but it’s not as though she just slicks on lip gloss and heads out the door. I agree: she’s in quite a tough position, and I don’t envy her (for the most part…)

I also think that they are engaged (unannounced thus-far) and once it is announced, she’ll have lots of of public engagements to attend and a rather busy diary, so maybe this pre-engagement time has been arranged to be the calm before the storm for her. I can think of worse ways to spend time than work on one’s image and spend time with one’s family. KH
