Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s wedding photo in People

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

People magazine has released a peek at Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s wedding photos; they’re on the cover of this week’s issue with their dog and matching side-swept bangs.  My question: who do you think took longer to get ready?  Probably Pete — those locks don’t flatiron themselves!  Ashlee’s heavily-rimmed eyes look especially pretty, but I’m waiting to reserve beauty judgment until I see more photos - the issue is on sale Friday!

Gwyneth Paltrow (and those sky-high heels!) in Cannes

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I’m sorry if you’re sick of pictures from the Cannes Film Festival, but I am burning up with jealousy that I’m not there right now to see all the gorgeous stars in person. Glamour…on the beach…en Francais!  (God, it’s even better than the Oscars.)  My personal style icon Gwyneth Paltrow is back in business, making mincemeat of all the other red-carpet starlets by first stealing the show at the Chopard party, and then glamming it up at the premiere of her new film Two Lovers.  Shiny hair, softly flushed cheeks, a generous helping of black eye makeup…Gwynnie loves the classics!

Everybody’s getting married!

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Jenna Bush!  Autumn Kelly!  Ashlee Simpson!  The latest celebrity to get married in the past few nanoseconds is Jessica Alba, who shotgun-wedding-ed Cash Warren yesterday (and apparently her own brother didn’t even know, says US Weekly).  Waiting breathlessly for the wedding pics, I’m not gonna lie…  Here she and Cash are below as featured recently in People’s 50 Most Beautiful issue:

More pictures of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at Cannes

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I’m sorry, but how gorgeous is Angelina Jolie?  She and Brad Pitt made yet another appearance on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival today, this time for the premiere of her new Clint Eastwood-directed movie Changeling.  She’s as big as a semi, but pregnancy seriously becomes her.  (And Brad’s not looking bad, either!)

Megan Crane’s beauty recommendations for curly haired girls

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Megan Crane’s hilarious, relatable books include the hit Frenemies and her latest, Names My Sisters Call Me, which I recently devoured and recommend.  She’s also in possession of gorgeous (if occasionally difficult!) curly hair.  Below, her favorite products for corkscrewed gals, as well as a few beauty must-haves:

“I have found the greatest secret to living with naturally curly hair is to live in a desert (read: low-humidity) environment, which is a major reason why I moved to Los Angeles.  Before that I lived in the pouring rain in England for years and my hair, when not sopping wet, resembled that of a wild animal.  I learned from that experience.  Aside from avoiding humidity, I swear by John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon: Flawless Finishing Creme.  It is the only product I’ve found that works consistently, and keeps my curls at a managable and pretty wave rather than a frizzy disaster.

In a pinch, I have been known to use Lubriderm (yes, the regular moisturizer).  A quarter-sized amount in wet hair is surprisingly useful.  Any moisturizer, when applied to unexpected frizz, can calm the situation, I find.  When forced into humid places, I use various combinations of the above and things like Sebastian Wet or John Frieda Clearly Defined Style Holding Gel in attempts to wrest control.

I am addicted to Chapstick, regular flavor.  I’m currently in love with Almay Blendable Eye Pencils, particularly in brown.  So soft and smoky.  Because everybody loves a little mystery around the eye, right?  And my friend and beauty guru recently introduced me to Chanel products, which, needless to say, I just adore.  Especially the sheer illuminating base– everyone tells me how much I seem to be glowing when I use it!”

Carrie Underwood (and company) at the Academy of Country Music Awards

Monday, May 19th, 2008

After growing up in Georgia, country music holds a special place in my heart.  (Nowadays country is so crossover that it’s basically indistinguishable from pop!)  Last night’s Academy of Country Music awards in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand brought out several high-profile stars like Nicole Kidman, Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough, and Queen of them All, Carrie Underwood.  Loving the fringe, Carrie.

I normally have issues with Carrie’s makeup team, who seem to delight in giving her a perennial five-o-clock-shadow “tan”, but she was looking mighty flawless…if a bit, well, country!

Nicole Kidman’s glowing, but I’d gently suggest to her dermatologist to go easy on the Restylane in the lips next time.  We don’t need a Meg Ryan/Melanie Griffith situation here

Tom Cruise and Suri are so adorable I want to eat them

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Mommy Katie Holmes might be in dire need of a makeover (you were doing so well for a while there, Kate), but little Suri Cruise is still tops in the tot-style stakes.  I also have to admit that Tom’s interviews on Oprah made me like him a lot more again—and Jerry Maguire is my second favorite movie, after all.  (The first?  The Sound of Music!  Lame?  Don’t care!)

The Retin-A Diaries

Monday, May 19th, 2008

It’s been about three weeks since I started Retin-A, and my skin is slowly but surely acclimating.  No more snake-like shedding!  No more necessity of hiding my face under a paper bag!  I still have a fair bit of flaking, but at least now it’s socially-acceptable, as opposed to “Ew…do you, like, have a disease?”  This weekend, at the Total Beauty Blogger Summit, I had my skin analyzed using a super-duper fancy machine, and while I have some sun damage (damn you, Florida!), my skin is in the 99th percentile when it comes to wrinkles.  I’m still waiting for the transformation, however—that moment when the first friend or stranger says: “Your skin!  It looks amazing!  What have you been doing?”  Don’t let me down, Retin-A…
