Reader Tip: Post-Chemo Moisturization

I’ve been getting so many emails from readers with across-the-board recommendations about products that I’ve decided to start posting them.  First up…

After chemotherapy, skin usually becomes extremely dry, so J. writes in:

“Vaseline is your friend, especially after the shower!  My dad experienced very brittle nails on his hands and feet.  I recommend Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hand & Nail, and Vaseline Intensive Rescue Healing Foot Cream.  He had abnormally dry hands and feet and it helped a lot.”

When my FIL was going through chemo, the doctors and staff all recommended Udderly Smooth Udder Cream (http://www.uddercream.com/ — site has sound). They liked it so much it was in all the exam rooms, the offices and the bathrooms. You can find it in most drug stores and Trader Joes.

Products based on petroleum? I know plenty of people with sensitive skin who have trouble using those products as it is (me included), let alone after all the chemicals the human body has to endure during chemotherapy. Don’t get me wrong; it’s great that it worked for J.’s dad! From what close friends told me who had to undergo chemo, however, I’d generally recommend organic stuff, above all anything by Dr. Hauschka or Weleda (especially their line with sea buckthorn!).
