How to…use Bare Minerals without making an utter mess!
Okay, people, I’ve gone over this a few times, but judging from some of the comments (not to mention the messed up makeup bags of my own friends), there’s a lot of confusion over how to properly use Bare Minerals! At some point in time, like seventy years ago (or, I don’t know, seven), I watched the video that comes with the introductory kit, but I can’t remember if it explains this most crucial step or not: when you’re opening the jar, don’t remove the tape inside. Rather, peel it back the teeniest bit to allow visibility of just a few holes. Tap the jar onto the inside of the lid, allowing a small amount of makeup to escape—much less than you think you’d need!—and then swirl your brush around inside the lid. (Hence the whole “Swirl, Tap, Buff” thing, which you can see in action at the website.) When you’re done, retape the opening, so it’s completely closed. If you take the tape off or pull it back too much, then a mess is absolutely guaranteed; with the tape securely on, all will be well in Mineralmakeupland!

For me it took a while (and a lot of mess) before I realized that I shouldn’t take the tape completely off. I don’t think it says that anywhere…

doh! Thanks, I know why I have a huge mess in my bathroom every morning now.

I actually didn’t know this (it’s not in the video), but found out about it on another site while reading up on how to travel with bare minerals without making a huge mess. I actually re-taped all of mine, carefully pouring excess makeup in another jar so I could wipe the holes and get the tape to stick. Now I just shove a cotton round in the top when I travel and all is good.

Nice. I travel a lot and that too has been my secret for mess-free BE.

no, it does NOT go over this in the introductory video! you realized this AFTER you have created a mess in your make-up bag (or, say, you get WARMTH on your BEIGE carpet…).
thanks for the tip…it is about time for me to buy a new jar…THANKFULLY!

Thanks! I’m going to try the tape trick. I did peel my original tape off, or ir lost its “stick” eventually and fell off. Glad to know there’s a way to minimize the mess!

P.S. Only thing I son’t like about BE is family and friends peer at me curiously and ask if I’m pregnant because of the glow…. ummmmm…. lol

I tried that, but my tape ripped. I’ll just have to be more careful next time!

Tamara, I tried it when I ditched Warmth and got a less intense bronzer, and found the tape wasn’t very easy to partially rip. I just pulled off the whole thing and replaced it with a piece of scotch tape.

I took the pointy end of a large paperclip and used it to poke through the tape and most of the holes…it works wonders! Just the “right” amount of product comes out of the holes when I turn it over and tap/shake it a bit.

I’ve had the same tales of mess as above. Thanks for the tips.
Everytime I use it I ask myself ‘why don’t they redesign the packaging’.

I just punch one or two holes max. using a pen tip insead of removing the tape… it works really good in cutting the mess, on my bathroom counter.
